The Gil Evans Orchestra - Plays the Music of Jimi Hendrix (1974 quad mix 24/96 lossless 4.0 DVD-A) 24/96 4.0 lossless MLP (DVD-Audio). 16/48 4.0 AC3 @ 440kbps (DVD-Video) for compatibility with standard DVD players. Slight noise/crackle filtering applied (Izotope RX 2), no EQ, compression, or rear channel boost. Converted from quad CD-4 vinyl using an AUDIO TECHNICA AT20SLa CD-4 cartridge / JVC 4DD-5 demodulator. "Evans was to have arranged for Jimi Hendrix, but the guitarist's sudden Death iced the project. 'Music of Jimi Hendrix' is a glimpse at that project, but it's not fully developed enough to give a real sense of what it should have been. The readings are perfunctory, lacking the sensuous, assaultive experience that Hendrix created. Evans only arranged two of the eight tracks. Japanese guitarist Ryo Kawasaki does provide some good moments, however." *** - Mikal Gilmore, Rolling Stone
